Always nice to start the day with a bit of good news in an otherwise ocean of shitty news. The NY Times lost more money last quarter than even the worst predictions. News like that just makes me warm and fuzzy all over. How long before this beast is put out of its misery already?
In a completely unrelated story, Fox News' ratings were up 25% last quarter and is beating CNN by 2:1 on most days and msnbc by 3:1 or even 4:1 on some occasions.

Volunteer or else
Why do I have this sneaking suspicion that this program will not be voluntary in a few years? Remember right after the election, St. Barry of Honolulu wrote on his change.gov website about a program to **REQUIRE** every kid to volunteer before graduation. That was quickly taken down after a mini-storm of outrage, even from some on the left.
Well today we get this bit of wonderful news:
Here's my prediction on how this plays out; as part of his supposed cost cutting, this program will be the first to go. But because it is so darn good for the community, he will keep the program, just cut the funding. Which essentially will mean 250,000 citizens working for free for the government.
And just so things run more smoothly, maybe everyone should wear a uniform when performing this public service. You know, so we can easily identify the participants. Here is a nice suggestion for a uniform design. And once all the kids are enrolled in this program.
Well today we get this bit of wonderful news:
WASHINGTON – The AmeriCorps program started by President Bill Clinton will triple in size over the next eight years, and tens of thousands of other Americans will soon see new opportunities to give back to their communities. Are you effing kidding me? $5.7B in bribes for kids and old people to "volunteer"? Hey Barry, maybe you need to buy a dictionary and look up the world volunteer.
The legislation provides for gradually increasing the size of AmeriCorps to 250,000 enrollees from its current 75,000. It's all part of a $5.7 billion national service bill President Barack Obama is scheduled to sign Tuesday
People 55 and older could also earn $1,000 education awards by getting involved in public service. Those awards can be transferred to a child, grandchild or even someone they mentored. Students from sixth grade through senior year of high school could earn a $500 education award for helping in their neighborhoods during a new summer program.

The Three Amigos
Watching Obama kiss the ass of Ortega, Chavez and Castro over the pas week made me wonder what he would have done in the 1930s. After all Hitler was just misunderstood right? Stalin was a good guy but he had to do what he did because of US intervention. And the Emperor of Japan? Just an oppressed minority leader at the hands of imperialist, aggressive Americans. And I believe there was affordable health care available in Germany and for St. Barry of Honolulu that's all he needs to know baby!
I'm still not sure about one thing though. That is whether St. Barry of Honolulu really believes in Castro, or he's pandering to the left or a 3rd option, he's just clueless like the left about what communism truly means. You have uber imbeciles like Sean Penn who go to Cuba and Venezuela and come back praising the virtues of socialism/communism. I think Sean Penn really believes those systems work well. But that's because when he's there he's only shown the upside (what little of it there is). He doesn't see the poverty. He doesn't see the political oppression. He doesn't experience what it's like to live in totalitarianism day to day. Same goes with his fellow uber idiots like Jeanine Garafalo, Babs Streisand and the rest of the Hollywood morons.
Obama appears to be a smart guy (57 states notwithstanding). So could he really be that clueless about the realities of Cuba and Venezuela? Maybe. But doubtful. Which is what makes him truly scary. He knows what a hell hole Cuba is, and still wants to emulate it. I could almost give him a pass if he were just ignorant. But the fact he purposely wants to subject Americans to the same 3rd world living conditions is appalling.

Red State, Blue State Unemployment Frame of Mind
Take a look at this map.
Do you see any kind of pattern?
If you don't, let me help you out. The more blue the state, the higher the unemployment rate tends to be. California, Michigan, Nevada, Indiana, N. Carolina, Rhode Island and Oregon are all over 10%. All of them, by wide margins, voted for The Teleprompter In Chief. All of them are dominated by left-wing idiots who think the way to economic prosperity is high taxes, high govt spending and strong unions.
Lowest rates of unemployment are found in places like Wyoming, S. Dakota, Utah, Idaho, Texas, Nebraska. States that rejected Obamunnism and in general have low taxes and weak unions. And surprise, surprise, have decent economies right now.
But that must be a fluke. Since I am told repeatedly by the MSM that only right wing extremist types live in Texas and Idaho.

Recession? Where?
Remember back about 3 months ago when St. Barry of Honolulu was taking office? The country was in the greatest depression since the great depression. The little girl without a coat to wear, that John Edwards talked about, well she didn't even have a sweater anymire. That's how dire the situation was.
It was bullshit then and it is bullshit now. Except now, all of a sudden we're not in the greatest financial meltdown of all time. We're in your run of the mill recession, which may very well have ended already, so says the Teleprompter In Chief.
But Right Wing Extremist guy, how can you say that? Unemployment is at 8.5%!! Yeah and? It was at 11% in the early 1980s recession. And unemployment is almost meaningless when discussing the economy. It is a lagging indicator. Very lagging. Unemployment doesn't start heading up until well into a recession. And it doesn't start going down until well into a recovery. It's a great historical piece of data. It doesn't do much to get a current snapshot of what's happening.
I see almost no evidence of any economic slowdown in my every day life. Flights I take are full. Restaurants I go to are full. I went to the mall a couple of weeks ago, I was amazed at the number of people there. I recently went on a cruise, it was overflowing with people. Everywhere I go, I see nothing but active economic activity. In contrast, the first few months post 9-11 was the exact opposite. Restaurants were empty. Stores were empty. Flights (obviously) were empty. There was a sense of economic hardship out there as well as fear. But this time around I just don't see it.
Granted I don't live in the midwest where I'm sure things are not as rosy as I describe. But the midwest has been rotting for years. That's nothing new.
Face it folks, you were lied to. First by Bush as he got his $700B TARP bailout using fear of a financial system impolsion. Then by Obama, Pelosi, Reid and Specter using the fear of an economic collapse to get their $800B stimulus and $4T budget passed. Truth of the matter is and always has been, the economy slid into recession. Just like it did in 2001, 1990, 1982 and 1973. And just like those past 4 recessions where the economy rebounded on its own, it is rebounding on its own now.
TARP was nothing but a giveaway to Goldman Sachs and AIG. The vast majority of the stimulus will be spent in 2010 just in time for the mid-terms. It is nothing more than good old fashioned vote buying, Chicago style.
America, you was punked! And your great grandkids will be paying interest on the money that was spent in the last 6 months to perpetrate that joke.

Welcome Fellow Crazy People
Earlier this week the man-woman Janet Napolitano, former AZ governor and current DHS Secretary released a report. This report stated that anyone who doesn't follow the Obummer talking points and doesn't drink the Kool-Aid on a daily basis is a right wing extremist.
So take this quick quiz:
Do you favor lower taxes?
Do you think the 2nd Amendment is important?
Do you think spending $13 trillion in 90 days is excessive?
Do you think fighting islamo-fascists is like you know something that should be done?
Well if you answered yes to one or more of the question, then you too are a right wing wacko according to the she-woman Janet Napolitano.
WELCOME COMRADES
